Report: Muslim Brotherhood Embedded in U.S. Government Agencies
Dr. Kanta Ahmed, affiliated with the Independent Women’s Forum, recently spoke on “Fox & Friends” regarding a report from the Institute for the Study of Global Anti-Semitism and Policy (ISGAP). The report claims that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated various U.S. government agencies. This discussion also touched on Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to label the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as a terrorist organization.
On Monday, President Donald Trump issued an executive order instructing Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to start the process of designating specific branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations. The order cites the organization’s role in violence across the Middle East, particularly linked to recent rocket attacks on Israel following the October 7, 2023 attack.
This order initiates a 30-day review by the State Department and Treasury Department aimed at identifying local chapters in Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon for this designation, which might lead to asset freezes, restrictions on travel, and the criminalization of any material support for related groups.
Founded in Egypt in 1928, the Muslim Brotherhood has transformed into a global network with branches in various regions, according to Trump’s order. It highlights how the affiliates in Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt engage in activities that incite violence and instability, thereby posing risks to both their regions and U.S. interests.
Reflecting on broader concerns, the order notes that, post the October 7 attacks, the military wing of the Brotherhood’s Lebanese branch collaborated with Hamas and other factions to launch numerous rocket strikes targeting both civilian and military objectives within Israel. Egyptian Brotherhood leaders even called for violent actions against U.S. partners, while the Jordanian branch has been linked to providing resources to Hamas militants.
Such actions, the order warns, jeopardize the safety of American civilians and threaten stability in the Middle East and beyond. Over the weekend, Trump indicated plans to officially classify the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group. He remarked on preparing final documentation for this designation, stating it would be done “in the strongest terms.” This announcement coincides with Texas’s recent designation of the group as a terrorist entity and the release of ISGAP’s extensive report highlighting the Brotherhood’s increasing influence in the U.S.
The ISGAP report outlines how the organization, originally from Egypt, has accessed U.S. government agencies, influenced civil rights policies, infiltrated educational institutions, and established a significant presence on social media. It suggests that the group aims to permeate U.S. agencies such as the State Department, Homeland Security, and the Justice Department through strategic appointments and advisory roles.
Charles Asher Small, ISGAP’s Executive Director, welcomed Trump’s remarks, emphasizing that the Muslim Brotherhood and its ideology represent a serious challenge to the United States and its democratic values.
