Aaron Glenn explains why Breece Hall was not on the field for an important fourth down for the Jets

In a tight match against the Ravens, where the Jets were down 10-7 in the third quarter, Coach Aaron Glenn made some noteworthy choices.

On the first drive of the second half, Glenn opted for a risky 4-and-2 play from the Jets’ own 42-yard line.

However, as they prepared for the crucial play, their leading offensive player, Breece Hall, was absent from the field, which was a bit surprising.

The offensive coordinator, Tanner Engstrand, called a pass play aimed at John Metchie III, but it ended up incomplete, granting the Ravens favorable field position.

Following this, Baltimore surged ahead with a solid seven-play, 42-yard drive, capped off by Derrick Henry’s second touchdown of the game.

On Monday, Glenn sidestepped inquiries about Hall’s absence during that pivotal moment, despite Hall’s impressive performance overall with 119 yards from scrimmage.

“We trust all the players on the field,” Glenn noted. “Isaiah [Davis] has shown he can run well. He’s a threat in the game, and we expect our players to create opportunities.” He expressed confidence that Metchie could handle one-on-one situations and stated that the players on the field were capable of making plays.

Hall stands out as the Jets’ leading rusher, amassing 168 carries for 766 yards and two touchdowns over the 11 games played. He also ranks second in receiving yards on the team with 301.

Even if he wasn’t involved in that particular call, Hall’s presence would likely have influenced how the Ravens’ defense reacted.

Unfortunately, his performance was shadowed by a critical fumble in the fourth quarter.

Interestingly, the Jets wrapped up another week without recording an interception.

Quincy Williams addressed the team’s struggles in closing out games, attributing it to the lack of turnovers, noting they have only achieved one takeaway so far this season. Yet, he seemed bewildered by why it continued to be a challenge.

“It’s an ongoing discussion for us, and we practice it regularly,” Williams reflected. “We envision executing it, but we’re trying to be more careful about it.”

Remarkably, the Jets have now gone 11 games without a single interception.
