Recently, Kevin Spacey spoke up about rumors concerning his living conditions, which had circulated after reports indicated that he was homeless and residing in hotels and Airbnbs. This statement came in the wake of being blacklisted from Hollywood due to multiple sexual assault allegations.
In a video posted back in December 2018, Spacey expressed his reluctance to constantly correct the media, stating, “If I did, I wouldn’t have time for much else.” He wanted to clarify the situation, particularly for the many who reached out offering help or checking in on him. “I’m truly touched by your generosity,” he noted, before suggesting it was misleading to interpret his circumstances as true homelessness in the everyday sense.
He explained during an interview with Mick Brown, the journalist who sparked the rumors, that he primarily stays in hotels and Airbnbs, moving where work is available. “I’ve been working pretty much non-stop for the past year, so I have a lot to be grateful for,” he added. Spacey emphasized that he isn’t among those struggling severely, saying, “I’m not one of the many people out there… in dire financial situations. My heart goes out to them.”
He expressed gratitude towards his fans for their kindness and continued support before discussing the financial stress stemming from the past several years. “The costs have been astronomical,” he admitted, referring to his recent performance at a nightclub in Cyprus. He feels like he’s back at square one, saying he’s just going where the work is and that “everything is in storage.” He mentioned, “I literally don’t have a home,” trying to clarify his situation further.
Spacey also candidly acknowledged that his financial condition isn’t great, admitting he had even come close to filing for bankruptcy. He faced significant charges related to sexual misconduct but was acquitted in July 2023 after a drawn-out trial. Following the jury’s verdict, he conveyed gratitude for the jury’s careful consideration of the evidence.
Looking to the future, Spacey expressed hope for a return to work, noting conversations with influential figures who are interested in collaborating with him. He believes that the industry is awaiting a signal from someone of stature, like Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino, before making any moves regarding his return to the screen. “I believe it will happen,” he concluded.
