Georgia Mother Arrested for Allegedly Killing Two Newborn Sons

A Georgia woman is facing serious charges after allegedly killing her two newborn sons in incidents that occurred over three years apart. Authorities have identified the woman as Dakota Taylor, aged 21, who was arrested on Thursday.

She has been charged with malicious murder, felony murder, and first-degree child abuse, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

On January 8, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office sought help from the GBI to investigate the death of an 8-month-old infant found unresponsive at home in Matthews, Georgia. Tragically, the infant later died in a hospital.

Documents obtained indicate that investigators suspect Taylor of “unlawfully and with malice” suffocating her son, Caleb, causing him great emotional and physical distress. It’s deeply unsettling to think about a mother harming her child like this.

When arrested, Taylor was already in custody at the McDuffie County Jail, where she was being held for an unrelated child death case from 2021.

In that separate incident, authorities believe she killed her 7-month-old son, Mika, by blocking his airway in September 2021. At the time, the cause of Mika’s death was not clearly determined.

Interestingly, body camera footage captured by a police officer at a group home revealed the moments after Mika was found unresponsive. Taylor had bathed him earlier and then placed him in a swing. Later, workers discovered Mika slumped and unresponsive.

Witness accounts suggest that Taylor seemed indifferent in the aftermath of her son’s death. One officer remarked that she appeared oddly calm, which is quite troubling given the circumstances.

Officials have stated that the investigation is still active, and it’s hard to imagine the complexity of emotions and details that surround such tragic events.
