Conclusion of Trump Lawsuit in Fulton County
The lawsuit filed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis against President Donald Trump has officially come to an end.
Judge Scott McAfee has agreed to dismiss the case, with the decision announced on Wednesday. This came after prosecutors, who had taken over from Willis, recommended that the case should no longer proceed.
Steve Sadow, Trump’s primary defense advisor in Georgia, commented that “the political persecution of President Trump has finally ended.” He emphasized that the case never should have been pursued and praised the closure as a result of a fair and impartial prosecutor.
Peter Skanadrakis, the executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia (PACGA), was appointed to find a replacement for Willis after her disbarment. However, he took over on November 14 when no suitable substitute was found.
Skanadrakis noted that his decision was rooted in his understanding of the law and not influenced by political motives, having previously run for office in both major parties.
He also pointed out that the charges were more fitting for a federal case, like the one initiated by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, rather than a state-level case. Smith had to retract his efforts after Trump secured victory in the 2024 election.
“Actions such as organizing phone calls, making public statements, and other communications do not, in my view, amount to sufficient grounds for a RICO lawsuit,” Skanadrakis wrote.
This story is developing and further updates are expected.
