House Speaker Mike Johnson on US-Israel Alliance

House Speaker Mike Johnson has recently emphasized the importance of the US-Israel relationship, describing it as strategically vital for the region. He also stated that any form of anti-Semitism should be “totally rejected.”

His remarks come at a time when there’s notable division within the Republican Party regarding how to approach U.S. support for Israel and combat rising anti-Semitism. In an interview on the “Katie Miller Podcast,” Johnson addressed the concerns over this division. He urged everyone to recognize the critical nature of the Israel alliance, noting that many Americans feel their support is anchored in “biblical reasons.” But, he added, even those who might not see it that way must acknowledge the significance of having strong allies in such a volatile area like the Middle East, which he described as the only stable democracy in the region.

Johnson remarked, “You can make all kinds of arguments about the necessity of this alliance. Anything anti-Semitic, though, should be universally condemned. I stand firmly on that.” He voiced the need for love and acceptance for all, especially the Jewish community.

A faction of House Republicans, though small, has started to distance itself from the traditional pro-Israel viewpoint. Notably, Representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie have been vocal in their opposition to U.S. policy towards Israel, with Greene even announcing her resignation from Congress effective January 2026 and advocating for cuts to military aid to Israel.

Massie has long been critical of military aid to Israel, raising concerns about the influence wielded by pro-Israel lobbying groups such as AIPAC on U.S. foreign policy.
