Tragic Ending to Young Love on Long Island
A Long Island teenager is at the center of a heartbreaking incident after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend in a failed murder-suicide. A family friend shared that the teen was deeply affected by their “puppy love” ending.
Emily Finn, just 18 and a freshman in college, had recently ended her relationship with the unnamed boy, who was set to join the military. This transition marked a turning point in their youthful romance, as officials have indicated.
“It was love that didn’t quite make sense,” the friend, who wished to remain anonymous but has known the boy for many years, stated outside the boy’s home. “Most young relationships don’t last, but it’s tough.”
While details around the incident remain unclear, the friend expressed confusion over the extreme actions taken by the boy. “People are speculating, saying she must have provoked him, but that’s just not true,” he added.
The boy found himself in a hospital bed, spending his 18th birthday and Thanksgiving recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He is now facing murder charges.
Authorities believe that Finn was shot within her family home in Nesconset around 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday. Reports indicated that she had returned some of the boy’s belongings after their breakup, which he apparently struggled to cope with.
The friend remarked, “At that age, the brain is still developing. I went through breakups myself, and while they were tough, I never thought of resorting to violence.” He expressed disgust at the boy’s reaction.
“This really highlights a bigger issue. Kids often can’t manage their emotions properly,” he continued, reflecting on the gravity of the situation.
Leading up to the tragic event, the boy allegedly showed no signs of any violent tendencies. “His parents are devastated and very angry. They’re not defending him; they know he needs to take responsibility,” the friend mentioned, noting the family’s struggles since the incident.
“Emily is gone, and her family is left to pick up the pieces. It’s devastating how quickly lives can change.”
Finn’s family chose not to comment but an online fundraiser described her as a “true treasure,” highlighting her kindness and community involvement. “To know Emily was to love her,” it read.
Though the suspect’s name hasn’t been released, police announced he has been charged with second-degree murder and will face court proceedings in the future. His injuries remain serious but stable, according to authorities.
