Lions’ Thanksgiving Loss Marred by Injury

The Lions had little to celebrate following their 31-24 defeat to the Packers on Thanksgiving Day. It was a tough game for the team, and there were some significant concerns afterward.

During Detroit’s second drive in the first quarter, standout receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown suffered a right ankle injury. He needed help getting off the field, and unfortunately, he was sidelined for the start of the second half.

While the full extent of St. Brown’s injury remains unknown, Lions head coach Dan Campbell suggested that he might be out for a week or two. “I don’t think it’s going to be long-term, maybe a week or two if we’re lucky,” he remarked after the game.

The injury happened when St. Brown was attempting to block a Packers player, and he fell awkwardly after offensive lineman Kayode Awosika rolled into his leg from behind. After being treated, St. Brown exited the field and went straight to the locker room.

Initially, the Lions reported that their iconic three-time Pro Bowler had injured his right ankle, and his return was uncertain. The injury timeline is concerning given his importance to the team.

St. Brown had just excelled in his previous game, rushing for 149 yards and a touchdown in an overtime win against the Giants a week earlier. Leading the team with 75 receptions, 884 yards, and nine touchdowns, his absence would be significant, complicating the Lions’ pursuit of a third consecutive NFC North title.

The Lions will also be missing tight ends Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright, along with wide receiver Kalife Raymond and starting center Graham Glasgow. Rookie receiver Isaac Tesla stepped up, scoring a touchdown in the second half.

In his address to the team post-game, Campbell noted the struggles they faced. “I know it’s frustrating. Even after a loss, there’s a lot to be thankful for. We’re in a bit of a hole, but that’s the way it is,” he said. “All we have to do is put this behind us and focus on winning the next game.”

The Lions have recently dropped four of their last seven games, putting them behind the NFC North-leading Bears and Packers. They currently sit a full game back from the 49ers for the final playoff spot in the NFC. Looking ahead, the Lions will host the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football for Week 14.
