Egor Demin and Danny Wolf shine as bright spots in Nets' loss

Nets’ Young Talent Shines Despite Loss to 76ers

On Friday night, the Nets had a rare opportunity with four of their five first-round picks healthy and ready to play.

This led to an exciting evening for their younger players.

Egor Demin shone with a career-high performance, totaling 23 points, nine rebounds, and five assists during 30 minutes of play. He shot 8-of-18 overall and landed 5-of-14 from three-point range.

Those 23 points and nine rebounds marked his personal best. Notably, his five three-pointers placed him third among Nets rookies, just shy of the record held by Kelly Kittles and Bojan Bogdanovic.

The Russian teenager again proved that he tends to elevate his game as it progresses. Although he didn’t score in the first half, he exploded in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

“I think I really needed to find my rhythm and adjust,” Demin remarked after the Nets’ 115-103 defeat to the 76ers in the NBA Cup. “In that moment, I felt a surge of energy and gradually improved.”

Danny Wolf experienced his first overtime game in the NBA.

The big man, who excelled in the G League with averages of 20 points and 10 rebounds, was called up from Long Island to fill in for the injured Michael Porter Jr.

“It’s great to get this chance. They say they’re prepared, but I’m just giving it my all. Even though we didn’t win, it felt good to contribute,” said Wolf. “I’ll get another opportunity against Milwaukee on Saturday.”

In his stint, Wolf recorded five points and five rebounds in just under 13 minutes, finishing the game with a plus-6, making him the only Net with a positive plus-minus on the evening.

Demin expressed confidence in Wolf, saying, “He stepped onto the court with a lot of confidence. He’s been around the game for a while, and it showed.”

Nick Claxton contributed 12 points, six rebounds, and a block, extending his streak to 14 consecutive games with at least one block, the longest in the NBA this season.

Giare Williams, starting in Porter’s absence after previously not playing, added 10 points and four rebounds.

As for Cam Thomas, the Nets shared on November 7 that his hamstring injury would be reevaluated in three to four weeks. Interestingly, Friday was three weeks post-injury.

Coach Jordi Fernandes stated, “It’s been three weeks, but we said three to four weeks. There’s still time before the next update.”
