Ed Sheeran Talks With Taylor Swift After Her Engagement
Ed Sheeran recently had a lengthy conversation with his friend Taylor Swift following her engagement to Travis Kelsey, putting to rest rumors about a rift between them.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Sheeran acknowledged their long-standing friendship, saying, “We’ve been friends for years. We’re very close. When we see each other, it’s like picking up right where we left off.”
It seems Sheeran discovered Swift’s engagement through social media, as she keeps her phone usage quite limited. He also addressed the speculation regarding their friendship, particularly after Swift released her album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” shortly after Sheeran’s own, “Play.”
Sheeran mentioned, “I caught up with her for about four hours.” He described their meeting as a heartfelt reconnection, stating it felt quite natural, like they were just talking about life.
He noted that not having access to a phone makes it tough to stay connected. “I feel like a real human connection is lost,” he said, lamenting the role social media plays in relationships.
The news of Swift’s engagement to the Kansas City Chiefs player broke in August, and they shared it on Instagram. Sheeran admitted he learned about it like everyone else, stating, “Instagram,” when asked how he found out. He was caught off guard by the revelation, responding to Andy Cohen’s surprise with an honest, “No.”
After releasing his eighth album on September 12, Sheeran commented on the music industry’s reaction to the timing of their album releases, saying some were “frustrated” with the overlap. A source mentioned that Ed takes these matters seriously and is keen on planning his album’s release.
Sheeran expressed some frustration over the timing, noting, “He put out his album four months ago, then Taylor put out hers just two weeks later.” This situation meant his team had to work harder to ensure he got enough attention before Swift’s album overshadowed his.
Despite these pressures, Sheeran remains grateful for his time with Swift. In a podcast earlier this year, he shared that they often have extensive catch-up sessions. “I see her about four times a year,” he explained. He believes these deep conversations are a worthwhile way to maintain their friendship.
