Hegseth Posts Meme Amid Controversial Attacks on Drug Ships
As the Trump administration intensifies military action against alleged narco-terrorist vessels, Army Secretary Pete Hegseth shared a meme featuring a character named Franklin from a children’s book series, humorously depicting him firing at these ships. “On my Christmas wishlist…” he commented while sharing the altered book cover.
The meme shows Franklin in a helicopter, launching what looks like an RPG towards a boat below, already engulfed in flames from a prior explosion. The title of this mock book? “Franklin Targets Narco-Terrorists.”
Rep. Seth Moulton, a Democrat from Massachusetts who is vying for a Senate seat, criticized Hegseth’s post, labeling it disgraceful.
He tweeted, “You’re a disgrace,” implying that such behavior was unbecoming of a public figure. Former Congressman Justin Amash also chimed in, asserting, “There’s nothing Christian about war crimes,” in response to Hegseth’s meme.
In a recent article, Hegseth defended the military’s actions. He emphasized that the attacks focus on disrupting lethal drug trafficking and targeting those within designated terrorist organizations. He reiterated that the operations aim to “kill narco-terrorists who are poisoning the American people,” marking a clear stance on the intent behind the military measures.
While some may find humor in Hegseth’s meme, others see a troubling contradiction in celebrating violence against perceived enemies within the realm of drug trafficking.
