Justin Jefferson skips media as Vikings season goes downhill

Discontent Boils Over in Minnesota

Frustration is rising in Minnesota’s football scene.

Justin Jefferson, the star receiver for the Vikings, typically faces reporters after games. However, following the Vikings’ lackluster 26-0 defeat to the Seahawks on Sunday, Jefferson—who had a mere 4 yards on two receptions—skipped his press conference.

If Jefferson continues to dodge the media, he might face a fine. The NFL mandates that most players must talk to reporters, which, as many remember, was highlighted by Marshawn Lynch’s famous line about just being there to avoid penalties.

Jefferson’s lack of communication is likely fueled by the ongoing struggles of second-year quarterback JJ McCarthy, whose inconsistent performance has been frustrating. Things took a turn for the worse with third-string QB Max Brosmer’s poor outing on Sunday.

Coach Kevin O’Connell didn’t hide his disappointment. “You can’t play that kind of offensive football and expect to win in a place like this,” he commented after Brosmer’s dismal stats—just 126 passing yards and four interceptions.

The Vikings currently sit at 4-8, having a truly nightmarish season. This isn’t the first time, though, that Jefferson has seemed unsettled during this stretch.

After the Week 12 loss, he expressed, “It’s frustrating to lose… I’m here, saying the same thing each week and hoping for change, but here we are, still in the same position.” It’s almost exhausting, isn’t it? Whatever’s needed to turn things around is proving elusive.

Interestingly, post-game, he was spotted embracing former quarterback Sam Darnold. Darnold had been left behind when the team decided to stick with McCarthy after a promising 2024 season that included a playoff appearance.

Now, with McCarthy uncertain to clear concussion protocol in time for the upcoming home game against the Commanders, the future remains unclear. The turmoil in Minnesota, it seems, continues.
