Steelers Suffer Home Defeat to Bills

Following a disappointing loss at home to the Bills on Sunday, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers spoke about the team’s need for cohesion in their game strategies—though, frankly, that cohesion seems to be lacking.

“In our film sessions, everyone is present, and when I evaluate the routes, they seem to follow them correctly,” Rodgers mentioned after the Steelers fell to Buffalo with a score of 26-7.

“We have weekly meetings and there are opportunities to connect outside the facility too. I’m eager to get together with the guys,” he added.

At 41, Rodgers didn’t single out any specific players, but it’s evident that the passing game has to click sooner rather than later as the season progresses.

Rodgers is pushing through multiple fractures in his left wrist. He noted that tight end Jonnu Smith had some miscommunication during a play, which likely left him frustrated.

“Jonne and I were definitely not on the same page,” Rodgers explained. “I called for an in-breaker, but he went for an out-breaker. I’m sure he’s getting tired of those kinds of mistakes because he’s a true professional.”

This marks Rodgers’ first season with the Steelers, where he completed 10 out of 21 passes for 117 yards, along with losing a fumble. He even had to leave the game briefly after a heavy hit from Joey Bosa, during which backup Mason Rudolph came in and threw an interception.

The Steelers managed to hold a narrow 7-3 lead at halftime. However, after the break, Josh Allen and the Bills took control, and the Steelers defense allowed a staggering 249 rushing yards.

Unsurprisingly, the home crowd expressed their dissatisfaction, particularly towards coach Mike Tomlin.

“I completely understand their frustration tonight,” Tomlin stated. “We didn’t put in enough effort, which is the harsh reality.”

Tomlin also reflected on his own emotions, mentioning, “I felt restless and frustrated. I think the players felt the same.”

After a strong start of 4-1, the Steelers now stand at 6-6, sitting second in the AFC North, behind the Ravens (6-6).

The rivalry will continue with a matchup in Baltimore this Sunday, followed by another meeting on January 4th.
