FBI Scraps Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program

Recent reports indicate that anonymous insiders have commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for discontinuing its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program. One source mentioned that before FBI Director Kash Patel took charge, DEI had been “overemphasized,” diverting focus from the agency’s core responsibilities.

As detailed in a report from the National Coalition of Active and Retired FBI Special Agents and Analysts, this information is poised to be presented to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees soon. An article in the New York Post overlaps with the Trump administration’s intensified scrutiny on DEI initiatives in both corporate settings and federal agencies.

Another anonymous source noted that younger employees appreciated DEI programs because they offered a break from regular duties, while senior staff had similar sentiments. Employees reportedly hesitated to voice concerns about the emphasis on DEI due to fears of being labeled ‘racist.’ The same source indicated that the elimination of DEI training has eased some administrative pressures on staff.

The FBI has yet to provide comments regarding these developments.

A third anonymous source highlighted that special agents and other staff members spent significant time on administrative tasks, and the recent changes have led to a noted improvement since less time is now consumed by DEI initiatives. Furthermore, this source asserted that the FBI should concentrate on its primary mission, emphasizing the need to prioritize essential tasks over what they termed “non-productive work” or sensitivity training, which they felt was unnecessary.

In contrast, reports suggest that the Biden administration is advocating a broader integration of DEI initiatives across various federal agencies.

Fox News initially reported in January that the FBI intends to close its DEI office by December 2024. President Trump also highlighted, in a paper released on January 20, a directive aimed at abolishing what he called “radical and wasteful” DEI programs throughout the federal government, arguing that every American deserves a government committed to serving all with equal respect.
