Tennessee vs. UCLA Women’s Basketball Game Summary

After a game on Sunday, Tennessee Lady Volunteers forward Jania Barker had an awkward moment in the handshake line with UCLA Bruins head coach Cori Close.

Barker was a standout player for the No. 14 ranked Lady Vols, scoring 25 points in just 27 minutes. However, the Bruins clinched a solid victory, winning 99-77 by a margin of 22 points.

During the handshake, Barker reportedly pulled her hand away from Close and continued down the line, as players engaged in post-game sportsmanship. Close responded by throwing up her hands, seemingly brushing off the odd interaction.

Barker, who transferred from UCLA to Tennessee after a single season in Southern California, previously participated in 36 games for the Bruins, averaging 7.4 points and 6 rebounds per game.

On social media, Barker clarified that she held no resentment towards Close despite the incident. She expressed goodwill for her former coach and teammates, stating, “Respect! We shook hands. I wish Coach Kori and my UCLA family all the best.”

Close echoed these sentiments, commenting that the handshake moment felt unusual. She emphasized Barker’s talent and contributions, wishing her well for the remainder of the season.

Currently, UCLA’s record stands at 8 wins and 1 loss, while Tennessee is at 5 wins and 2 losses.
