Macaulay Culkin has shared his hidden plan for another 'Home Alone' film.

Macaulay Culkin Considers New ‘Home Alone’ Film Idea

Macaulay Culkin, the much-loved former child star, has shared that he has a concept for a potential Home Alone sequel. The actor is currently in the spotlight thanks to his “Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin” tour, and during a recent event, he made it clear that, unlike the original film’s director Chris Columbus, he doesn’t entirely dismiss the idea of making sequels to festive films.

“I’m not completely allergic to it, that’s correct,” he said. Culkin expressed that he’s open to stepping back into the shoes of Kevin McCallister, although he stressed that any sequel would need to be handled just right. At this moment, he shared that he has “some sort of idea” for how the film could unfold.

Fatherhood Explored

He described a potential storyline, saying, “I’m a widow or a divorcee. I’m raising kids and all that stuff. I’m working hard and I’m not giving them enough attention, so my kids get kind of grumpy with me, and then I get shut out.” He hinted that Kevin’s son would set a trap for him in a bid to keep him out, marking a twist on their father-son relationship.

Culkin compared the renowned Home Alone house to a metaphor for his dynamic with his son, suggesting that the character is striving to reconnect with his child’s heart. “This is the closest elevator pitch I know,” he noted, reaffirming his openness to the idea.

Embracing the Past

This conversation reflects the recent shift in Culkin’s relationship with his childhood fame. Once reluctant to engage with his past, he is now more accepting and even nostalgic about his earlier work. In 2018, he appeared in a Google Assistant advertisement that tapped into his iconic role, and he has also participated in videos for the YouTube channel Cinemasacre, where he played and critiqued a video game tied to his character.

As he looks back on his career, Culkin shared that he recently began showing his children some of his older films and is less troubled by their lasting popularity. “I think for a while, when you’re a teenager, it’s like, ‘Oh, they keep talking about what I did,'” he said. “Now I’m like, ‘Ah!’ They still talk about what I did. I enjoy my heritage.” For the 2025 holiday season, he also paid tribute to his iconic role through a commercial for home care services.

The original Home Alone, released in 1990, and its 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, grossed over $450 million combined. In contrast, Home Alone 3, which did not feature Culkin, only managed to bring in $30 million.
