Police K9 Shot and Killed in Burbank

According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, a gang member named Jose Domingo Ayala Arras, who is originally from El Salvador, is currently facing charges in the shooting death of a Burbank police dog known as Spike. The 37-year-old was reportedly in the U.S. illegally.

It all began on November 22 when Ayala Arras allegedly fled a traffic stop, leading police on a chase through a residential neighborhood. During the pursuit, he opened fire and killed Spike after the dog found him hiding in some bushes.

Spike was quickly taken to a veterinarian but unfortunately didn’t survive.

In the wake of this tragic event, local law enforcement called in additional K9 units and SWAT teams. They also requested aerial support, as Ayala Arras was still armed. Officials made attempts to negotiate, but he continued to fire upon officers.

In the ensuing exchange of fire, Ayala Arras was ultimately killed by police. It’s just so heartbreaking to think that this escalated to such a violent conclusion.

Plans are underway for a memorial service for Spike, scheduled for Wednesday. He will also be honored during the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day, which should be a meaningful tribute. The community has come together, displaying flowers, stuffed animals, and other memorabilia in Spike’s honor.

Burbank Police Chief Rafael Quintero shared his appreciation for the overwhelming support from the community, expressing that it means a lot during this difficult time. He emphasized the dedication of the police department’s personnel, highlighting Spike’s ultimate sacrifice to keep them safe.
