Ilhan Omar Criticizes Trump’s Comments on Somali Immigrants

Minnesota Democrat Representative Ilhan Omar didn’t hold back on Wednesday, labeling President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about Somali immigrants as “creepy.” In a discussion with MS NOW’s Ana Cabrera, she suggested that Trump’s comments indicate an unhealthy fixation on her and her community, arguing that they serve as a distraction from his administration’s shortcomings.

“The president’s obsession with me and the Somali community seems pretty unhealthy. It’s just creepy, really,” Omar expressed. “I mean, perhaps he needs some help. It feels like he’s trying to divert attention from his many failures as president.”

In a cabinet meeting earlier, President Trump referred to Omar and other Somali immigrants, suggesting they were akin to “trash.” He stated, “If we keep bringing in trash, we’ll regret it. She’s trash. Her friends are trash. They don’t contribute, and they aren’t saying, ‘Let’s make this place great.'”

The conversation took a more contentious turn as Trump commented on immigrants saying, “If they’re coming here complaining, we don’t want them. We wish they would return to where they belong so we can address the real issues.” His remarks came amidst revelations that members of the Somali community in Minnesota have been implicated in a substantial fraud investigation involving the theft of $250 million from a child nutrition program.

Omar’s response continued with a sense of urgency, pointing out Trump’s attempts to mask his policies’ failures. “Look, his immigration policies aren’t seeing the desired results. Tariffs aren’t delivering relief to Americans. He’s being investigated for serious issues, and we know his links to the Epstein case are quite troubling.”

Eventually, Cabrera suggested that Omar confront Trump directly. Omar replied that Trump’s “message of bigotry” wouldn’t resonate with the Somali community, known for its resilience. “Intimidation tactics won’t matter to us,” she stated.

In a statement, White House Press Secretary Abigail Jackson defended Trump, asserting that he was right to spotlight issues stemming from what she described as “radical Somali immigrants.” She claimed that the influx of Somali refugees has turned Minnesota into a center for fraudulent activities at the expense of American taxpayers, adding that many Americans would appreciate the president’s comments.
