Lane Kiffin’s Claims Challenged by Mississippi Authorities
Lane Kiffin’s antics have certainly caught attention, and to be honest, it’s a bit amusing.
Authorities from Mississippi State have dismissed Kiffin’s assertion that Ole Miss fans attempted to run him off the road. During his introductory press conference as the new head coach for LSU, Kiffin expressed frustration over the alleged incident while traveling to the airport from Oxford, Mississippi, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
“I think people get pretty upset when you leave, especially if they feel you’ve done a good job and they feel a bit hurt,” Kiffin remarked. “They don’t normally drive from everywhere just to yell at you and try to run you off the road for no reason.”
In a way, he described how uneasy he felt when a fan supposedly tried to push him off the road, even mentioning that he had to reach out to a police officer he knew.
However, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety countered Kiffin’s claims, stating, “There has never been an incident in which a State Trooper was involved in any kind of accident while trying to force Coach Kiffin off the road,” as reported by Mississippi Today.
Bailey Holloway, a spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, clarified in an interview that Kiffin was given a safe escort by Highway Patrol troopers on his way to the airport, and they have no records of any vehicle attempting to divert his car from the road.
Furthermore, Brec Jones, a spokesperson for the Oxford Police, noted that no calls or complaints had been received regarding an alleged incident involving a car trying to force Kiffin off the road.
This whole situation feels like one of those quintessential “College Football, It Means More” moments. It’s just… so entertaining, really.
