Video Captures Arrest of Caroline Leavitt’s Nephew’s Mother
A new video showcases the moment when Bruna Carolina Ferreira, the mother of the nephew of White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, was apprehended by immigration officials outside her home in Massachusetts last month. The footage shows Ferreira leaving a parking lot in Revere, which is about eight miles northeast of Boston. As she was pulling away, several unmarked vehicles blocked her silver sedan on November 12.
Ferreira, dressed in a gray hoodie and black leggings, was detained without resistance before the vehicle convoy left the scene.
Originally from Brazil, Ferreira came to the U.S. on a B-2 tourist visa, which expired on June 6, 1999. She has an 11-year-old son with Leavitt’s older brother, Michael. The couple was previously engaged and share custody of their children. Michael Leavitt has since married another woman and had another son.
Following her arrest, Ferreira was taken to the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Basile, where she is undergoing processing for release.
Her attorney, Todd Pomerleau, characterized the incident as an “unlawful arrest” by government officials. He pointed out that the arresting officers wore masks and used unmarked vehicles. “No warrants were presented, which is a tactic commonly seen nowadays,” Pomerleau remarked.
Pomerleau criticized the situation, stating it exemplifies “targeted, unconstitutional corruption.” He added that Ferreira, a single mother who ran two businesses, was in the waiting process for a green card like many others, and now finds herself separated from her child just before the holidays.
The Department of Homeland Security has labeled Ferreira a “criminal illegal alien,” citing her previous arrests on assault charges, although Massachusetts records confirming such incidents weren’t immediately available.
Michael Leavitt recently mentioned that Ferreira had been actively involved in her son’s life, who has lived with her since birth. Notably, Caroline Leavitt is not related to Ferreira, and sources indicated that the two have not communicated in years.
Pomerleau also shared that Ferreira and Leavitt’s son lived together until he began kindergarten, noting that Ferreira was on her way to pick him up from school when she was arrested. “Bruna had a good relationship with the Leavitt family,” he explained, highlighting that Caroline is her son’s godmother, selected over her own sister, and praised Michael Sr. as a good father. “This situation is frightening. We are looking forward to her day in court.”
