Ex-Kansas Teacher Charged with Illegal Sexual Relationships with Student to Face Trial

Former Kansas Teacher Faces Trial for Student Relationship

A former art teacher from Kansas is set to go on trial after being accused of engaging in sexual activities with a student on several occasions. Nicole Hernandez, 30, who is also known by the name Nikki Baird, appeared in court this Tuesday. A judge decided to proceed with four charges against her for illicit sexual relations with students, as reported.

According to the affidavit, Baird allegedly had disciplinary interactions with a 17-year-old student during their time at a middle school before transitioning to Wichita North High School. The charges became public after police investigated Instagram posts suggesting an inappropriate relationship.

The former student recounted that Baird had been an art teacher in middle school and cultivated a relationship with him throughout his sophomore to senior years. They eventually began exchanging messages, and Baird reportedly expressed feelings for him in notes, saying things like, “I hope and pray that I will have the opportunity to be with you someday.”

Further details emerged, indicating that Baird summoned the student to her office multiple times under questionable circumstances. On graduation night, she proposed meeting him in the neighborhood for sex in his vehicle. He admitted feeling nervous and pressured but eventually consented.

After his graduation, Baird reportedly sent him explicit photographs, which he retained, thinking they might serve as evidence in the future. The young man eventually recognized the relationship’s impropriety and informed his family, providing them with graphic materials and notes as proof of Baird’s actions.
