Logan Cooke from the Jaguars nominated for Walter Payton award while facing allegations

Jacksonville Jaguars punter Logan Cook has been recognized as the team’s nominee for the 2025 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. This award is meant to highlight a player’s achievements both on and off the field, signifying one of the highest accolades in the NFL.

However, controversy emerged after Cook allegedly threatened to “kill” an opponent in a recent game. These claims surfaced following Jacksonville’s 25-3 win against the Tennessee Titans last Sunday.

During the fourth quarter of the match, Titans running back Julius Chesnutt accused Cook of making threats toward him. This incident occurred when Cook, while attempting to make a play, tripped punt returner Chaimela Dike at the end of a lengthy return. Cook ended up with a concussion but managed to return later in the quarter.

With just under twelve minutes left in the game, tempers flared again as players from both teams clashed. Cook was penalized for unnecessary roughness during this exchange, while Titans safety Mike Brown was ejected.

In his post-game remarks, Chesnutt described how Cook approached him and made the threatening comment, stating, “I don’t know what made him do that.” He mentioned that he never got an explanation for Cook’s aggression.

Cook wasn’t specifically questioned about the incident but commented on enjoying a competitive spirit in the match. He noted that the game was eventful overall. On a separate issue, he admitted to making a “disrespectful” remark toward the referee, expressing his desire to clarify his intentions afterward.

Having been with the Jaguars for eight years, Cook was drafted in the seventh round in 2018 and had previously earned a Pro Bowl selection last season.

Since the allegations came to light, reactions on social media regarding Cook’s nomination have been mixed. One user commented sarcastically about the contradictions of the nomination, while another suggested there was a disconnect between his behavior and his accomplishments on the field.

Additionally, the Houston Texans nominated linebacker Azeez Al Shaair for the same award, despite facing criticism for an illegal hit on Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence last season.

This year’s nominations also include notable players like Travis Kelce and Derrick Henry, among others.
