Psaki Mocks Trump’s Mixed Messages on Affordability

On Thursday, Jen Psaki, host of MS NOW, playfully criticized Republican lawmakers, suggesting they embrace what she views as President Donald Trump’s confusing messages regarding affordability.

During her appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Psaki highlighted Trump’s contradictory statements about his goal of lowering prices in the U.S. She encouraged Republicans to echo these statements, joking that it may make them seem less unfavorable than those made by Democrats.

“As someone who hopes Democrats regain some control and keep Trump in check, I really hope all the Republicans up for election just keep repeating what’s coming from the White House,” she quipped.

Colbert brought up Trump’s seemingly opposing claims about affordability. He posed a question about how Trump had described himself as “the president of affordability” one week, only to label affordability as a “Democratic scam” shortly after.

In a recent post, Trump proclaimed, “I’m the president of affordability. Speak it loud and proud!” which seemed to backtrack when he derided the term as a “Democratic fraud.” He expressed disbelief over the notion that lower prices would genuinely occur, asserting that the nation was experiencing the worst inflation in its history.

Psaki and Colbert chuckled at how Trump’s statements appeared to contradict each other. As Colbert read both statements, Psaki laughed and commented on the inconsistency, playfully advising Republicans to embrace his messages.

“It’s a great message. Good luck, everyone. Go ahead,” she said, giving a thumbs-up to Republicans, prompting laughter from the audience.

Psaki, who has referred to Trump as “sleepy,” appears to be mirroring a nickname he once gave to her former boss, President Joe Biden. Her appearance marks her second guest spot on Colbert’s show this week as the series winds down.

Trump has frequently touted his administration’s efforts against inflation, blaming the Biden administration for leaving him with what he describes as a historic inflation crisis. Recent polling shows a significant portion of voters disapprove of his handling of the economy, with just 38 percent approval.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House for their comments.
