In a recent operation in Minneapolis, Minnesota, nearly twelve undocumented immigrants were apprehended by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which included five individuals from Somalia.
According to reports, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also took into custody one person from Mexico and another from El Salvador.
During a statement on Operation Metro Surge, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin expressed disapproval of the state’s liberal governors and mayors.
“Sanctuary policies and leaders like Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have permitted individuals like pedophiles, domestic terrorists, and gang members to thrive in our neighborhoods, putting Americans at risk,” she said. “While law enforcement puts their lives on the line to protect Minnesotans, it seems that their elected officials are just standing by. ICE will find, detain, and deport all criminal undocumented immigrants, no matter where they are,” she added.
On social media, DHS described the arrested individuals as “the worst of the worst” and shared images of some of them.
Details were released regarding one of the suspects: “Abdulkadir Sharif Abdi, a Somali national, is noted as a former member of the Gangster Disciples and is currently affiliated with the Vice Lord Nation. His record includes convictions for fraud, possession of stolen property, vehicle theft, and several probation violations,” the agency mentioned.
This news follows reports of significant theft, embezzlement, immigration fraud, and welfare fraud involving some Somali immigrants in Minnesota.
President Donald Trump remarked at a recent Cabinet meeting that Somali immigrants should return to their homeland, stating, “They are from hell, complaining and whining. We don’t want them here. They should go back and fix their country.”
Additionally, in November, Trump indicated plans to terminate Minnesota’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somali immigrants, claiming that “Somali gangs are causing terror in our great state and billions of dollars are unaccounted for.”
