Border Patrol Announces $5,000 Fine for Illegal Immigrants
On Friday, the U.S. Border Patrol announced plans to impose a $5,000 “arrest fee” on all illegal immigrants apprehended in the country.
This new fee is part of President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Act,” as noted by Border Patrol Commissioner Michael Banks. It adds to existing fines already levied against certain undocumented individuals in custody. According to Banks, the fee will target immigrants “14 years of age or older” who enter or are brought into the U.S. “without inspection.”
He emphasized that this measure would apply to all illegal immigrants, regardless of their entry point, the duration of their stay, their current whereabouts, or their ongoing immigration processes.
The legislation backing this initiative, which includes new “arrest fees,” gained congressional approval in early July, facilitating over $170 billion for immigration enforcement over the next four years.
Since Trump began his second term, illegal border crossings have reportedly dropped to the lowest numbers seen since 1970. At the same time, Immigration and Customs Enforcement is actively conducting raids across various U.S. cities, including major areas like New York City and Los Angeles.
Earlier this year, it was also announced that deportation orders would be issued to migrants who refuse to leave, accompanied by fines of $1,000 for each day they overstay. In late August, reports indicated that around 21,500 fines had already been levied, accumulating to an estimated total of $6.1 billion.
Additionally, a $1,000 incentive is being offered to immigrants willing to voluntarily leave the U.S. through the Customs and Border Protection app. The Department of Homeland Security has claimed that about 1.9 million individuals have voluntarily exited since Inauguration Day.
