Jeremy Ruckert Reflects on Season as Free Agency Approaches
Jeremy Ruckert, now in his fourth season with the Jets, will enter free agency after this year. It’s a pivotal time for him, but he’s not overly concerned about what lies ahead. Well, maybe a little, but he seems more focused on the present.
This season, the tight end has been impressed by head coach Aaron Glenn’s steady approach. “The last few games of the season, it’s not about me or my personal actions,” Ruckert noted. “It’s crucial to pass on culture.” He elaborated that Glenn aims to instill a certain way of playing within the team.
Ruckert, a native of Long Island, received positive feedback from offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand this week. He understands that how he concludes this season might bear weight, not just for him but for the team overall.
“I want to play like the trend these days,” he expressed. “I want to go into the offseason with some momentum. What’s unique? Glenn has been here and knows what it takes. His message has been consistent since day one.” That message resonated with him.
“Initially, we didn’t start the way we hoped, but he didn’t change his message,” Ruckert reflected. “He’s committed to the plan—wants to stay true to it even when times get tough. We’re trying to keep that momentum and carry it into the future.”
In terms of performance, Ruckert has had a decent season, logging 16 receptions for 131 yards and one touchdown over 12 games, while also enhancing his run-blocking skills. “I love the system we have now,” he said, feeling it’s a perfect fit for him.
On another note, Adonai Mitchell is aiming to build on his best performance last week against the Falcons, with eight catches for 102 yards and a touchdown. “I’m still trying to get more comfortable,” he shared. Mitchell came over from the Colts in a trade, and it hasn’t been the easiest transition, especially as the season winds down.
Garrett Wilson, who has been sidelined since mid-November due to a knee injury, could possibly return for the upcoming game against the Jaguars, which might not mean much for the Jets as a whole. Glenn, however, declined to confirm his return, stating, “Let’s see. I’ll answer that when the time comes.”
