Update on Injured National Guardsman

The governor of West Virginia, Patrick Morrissey, shared that a National Guard member injured in a shooting in Washington, D.C., last week is “starting to look like himself.” This update came from information relayed by the soldier’s parents.

On Friday evening, Morrissey provided this update just before attending a vigil for Andrew Wolf at Musselman High School in Berkeley County, his alma mater. He noted that Wolf’s head wound is healing gradually and that his family is feeling hopeful. “Overall,” Morrissey mentioned, “the family hopes Andy will stay in acute care for another two to three weeks but is optimistic about his recovery.” He also encouraged West Virginians and Americans to keep praying, emphasizing that these prayers are making a positive difference.

The vigil commenced with a solemn moment of silence for fellow National Guardsman Sarah Beckstrom, who tragically lost her life in the November 26 shooting. Morrissey highlighted Wolf’s community’s support, saying, “You are not alone. South Berkeley stands with you, and the entire state of West Virginia and the nation is praying for you.”

During an appearance on a morning show, Attorney General Pam Bondi referred to Wolf as a “miracle,” noting that he is now able to open both eyes.

Suspect in Shooting Faces Serious Charges

The suspect in this tragic incident, a 29-year-old Afghan national named Rahmanullah Rakanwar, has been charged with first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to murder.

Bondi urged continued prayers for Andy, reflecting on her conversations with his family in the hospital, including his mother, Melody. “He’s a miracle,” she affirmed, recalling how Melody remained positive from the start, insisting, “He’s going to live. He’s going to be 100 percent.” Bondi’s account of Andy’s recovery journey painted a hopeful picture, emphasizing the absence of complications like blood clots.

A vigil held in Webster Springs, West Virginia, drew the community together, underscoring the shared loss of Sarah Beckstrom, one of the two guardsmen killed in the shooting.

As the investigation continues, the local community remains focused on supporting the families affected by this tragic event.
