Justin Trudeau addresses Katy Perry's inappropriate photo from Japan

Trudeau and Katy Perry Stir Controversy on Social Media

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his girlfriend, Katy Perry, have recently made a splash on social media, though it hasn’t been entirely smooth sailing.

The couple was first spotted together during a public appearance in Japan, shared in photos on Friday by former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida after they enjoyed time together.

In a photo hosted on X, Perry, 41, donned a cropped blazer alongside a miniskirt and black stockings, contrasting with Kishida’s wife, Yuko, who opted for a more conservative look.

Kishida posted on X, stating, “Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Japan with his partner and had lunch with my wife and I.”

Trudeau, who is 53, reshared the moment on his X account, writing, “It was a pleasure to meet you @kishida230. Katy and I truly appreciated the chance to dine with you and Yuko. Thank you for your friendship.”

Despite the optimistic tone of the photos, Perry’s outfit drew criticism from some fans who deemed it unsuitable for a formal setting.

One user commented, “Her outfit seems totally inappropriate for this type of diplomatic gathering,” while another quipped, “Did she really choose that? It feels like she’s being trolled.”

Another observer mentioned, “If she’s accompanying someone at an official event, it wouldn’t hurt to consult a stylist,” and yet another echoed the sentiment, adding, “Can she hire a fashion advisor?! That outfit is just… wow.”

Other users noted that Kishida referred to Perry simply as Trudeau’s “partner,” omitting her name, which didn’t sit well with some folks online.

Comments ranged from “Sir, you’re speaking about Katy Perry,” to “Are you trying to ignore Katy Perry?”

The timing of their trip coincided with Perry’s global Lifetimes Tour, where she performed for a sold-out audience at the Saitama Super Arena on December 3.

During her visit to Tokyo, she and Trudeau explored local sights and indulged in gourmet cuisine.

“Tour in Tokyo and more,” she captioned a series of posts that included pictures of them at the teamLab Planets Museum and enjoying sushi.

Reactions to these posts were generally more positive, with many of Perry’s 202 million followers expressing joy over her new romance after her split from Orlando Bloom in June.

Fans seemed eager to celebrate her happiness, tweeting things like, “We know Justin is the new minister of her heart! So happy for her!” and “If you’re happy, I’m happy for you… You deserve it.”

Perry’s relationship with Trudeau became public in late July when she performed in Montreal and was seen singing “Firework” with her daughter in attendance.

Trudeau, who has three children with his ex-wife, Sophie Grégoire, finalized their divorce in 2023 after 18 years together. As for Perry, she shares a five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove, with Bloom after dating for nine years before their recent split.
