Exploring Nick Sirianni's fresh strategy for the Eagles offense amid growing challenges

Nick Sirianni Revisits His Roots Before Facing Former Team

As the Eagles struggle to establish their offensive identity, Nick Sirianni, their head coach and Super Bowl champion, has taken a more active role in shaping the team’s strategy this week. Reports suggest he’s been participating more in meetings and collaborating with his offensive coordinator, Kevin Pattullo, who has faced challenges.

Heading into a matchup against the Chargers, the Eagles are on a two-game losing streak. Interestingly, Sirianni was with the Chargers from 2013 to 2017, first as a quarterbacks coach and later as wide receivers coach.

The team is keen to avoid a repeat of their late-season collapse in 2023, when they lost five out of their last six regular-season games, which ultimately led to the dismissal of their former offensive coordinator, Brian Johnson. Some have drawn parallels between Johnson’s and Pattullo’s situations.

Despite sporting an 8-4 record and a solid shot at clinching the NFC East title for the second year in a row, the Eagles’ vibe is markedly different from last season’s when they radiated confidence and ended up hoisting the Super Bowl trophy. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has recently taken the helm as head coach for the Saints.

Currently, the Eagles’ offensive struggles are evident—star receiver AJ Brown is feeling underwhelmed, the offensive line is beset by injuries, and Saquon Barkley hasn’t been as explosive as he was previously. Their offense ranks low in several categories, sitting at 24th for total yards per game (304.8), 23rd in passing yards (196.3), 22nd in rushing yards (108.5), and 19th in scoring (22.5 points per game).

In a surprising twist, it’s not what many would envision for the highest-paid offense in the league.

According to reports, Pattullo will remain the lead in offensive meetings and will continue to call plays against the Chargers.

Sirianni previously served as the Colts’ offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2020 before joining the Eagles.

Jalen Hurts, the Eagles quarterback, stated, “I’ve had several discussions with Coach Sirianni about improving our strategy. I feel confident about the vision and direction we’re taking.” Hurts is also garnering attention as a potential Super Bowl MVP based on his recent performances.
