Trump expresses disappointment that Zelenskyy has not yet reviewed the Ukraine peace plan during discussions

Trump’s Comments on Ukraine Peace Talks

President Donald Trump has expressed his disappointment that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has not yet reviewed the latest peace proposal aimed at resolving the conflict with Russia. This remark came during a media interaction at the Kennedy Center on Sunday, amidst ongoing discussions involving U.S. and Ukrainian officials in Miami.

“I’m a bit worried that President Zelenskiy hasn’t looked at the proposal just yet,” Trump said, mentioning that while Zelenskiy’s team seems supportive, the president himself is hesitant.

Trump further speculated about Russia’s ambitions, suggesting that they might want control over the entire country. “It’s a possibility, but I’m not sure how different that looks to Mr. Zelensky,” he added thoughtfully.

On the other hand, President Zelenskiy reported having a “long and substantive” phone call with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, discussing various matters, including strategies to halt the war with Russia and prevent future invasions.

Putin Responds to Peace Plan

Vladimir Putin has characterized Trump’s peace plan as a “starting point,” while also cautioning Ukraine to either withdraw or face “force.” This comes as tensions remain high, and negotiations continue.

Zelenskiy mentioned he is waiting for updates from his negotiating team regarding the latest discussions. Rustem Umerov, who leads the Ukrainian delegation, said he and General Andriy Khnatov will provide Zelenskiy with a briefing on the important details from the five-hour meeting with Putin.

Putin recently visited New Delhi for talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and noted that while discussions with the U.S. have been lengthy, they are yielding some results. However, he maintained his firm demands in various interviews, reinforcing that the conflict would persist until Russian forces occupy eastern Ukraine or Ukrainian troops pull back.

Zelenskiy’s European Meetings

Zelenskiy is set to meet with European leaders in London to further discuss the U.S.-led peace proposal. This is happening at a time when Russia has intensified its strikes, launching a significant number of drones and missiles aimed at Ukraine’s civilian and energy sectors. In just the past week, over 1,600 drones, around 1,200 guided bombs, and nearly 70 missiles of various types have been reported to target Ukraine.
