How Mark Andrews missed a clear touchdown opportunity for the Ravens against the Steelers

Injury and Missed Opportunities Hit Ravens Hard

Mark Andrews dealt another setback to the Ravens during a critical game against the Steelers.

With just 2:28 left in the game, the Ravens were ahead 27-22, facing a fourth down at the Steelers’ 8-yard line. Quarterback Lamar Jackson was searching for an open target when DeAndre Hopkins got free in the back of the end zone, signaling for the ball.

According to NFL analyst Brian Baldinger, Jackson attempted to pass to Hopkins; however, Andrews, running across the field, inadvertently deflected the ball, which was clearly aimed for Hopkins.

This misplay resulted in an incomplete pass, halting the drive and taking away the Ravens’ best chance to score and potentially regain the lead in a pivotal game. Jackson responded with a visible look of shock, realizing the lost opportunity that could have led to a win.

Andrews ended the game with a single catch on five targets, totaling just five yards, which is certainly not reflective of his potential.

The tight end, recently awarded a three-year, $39 million contract extension, has been part of many significant moments for the Ravens in recent seasons, but those moments have often ended in disappointment.

For instance, he fumbled the ball against the Bills in the AFC Divisional playoff it seemed like the Ravens had a chance to take control of the game.

This week wasn’t much different. Andrews also dropped a critical two-point conversion attempt that could have tied the game in the final minute against the Bills. They ultimately lost 27-25, following which the Bills successfully recovered an onside kick.

Now, the road ahead looks challenging for the Ravens if they want to secure a playoff spot. Their loss to the Steelers, while not a season-ender, significantly jeopardizes their playoff aspirations.

Currently sitting at 6-7, the Ravens trail the Steelers in the AFC North and face a tough schedule, beginning with a matchup against the Bengals in Cincinnati, a team they previously lost to. They also have games left against the Patriots at home and a rematch with the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
