Jordyn Dudley Shines for Gotham FC
Jordyn Dudley is making quite a name for herself on Gotham FC. Just 21 years old, this forward has been a key player for the reigning NWSL champions. Last Saturday, she helped halt a three-game winning streak by scoring in a 1-1 draw with Boston Legacy.
In the 9th minute, Dudley took a promising shot from outside the box, but Boston’s goalkeeper, Casey Murphy, made a solid save. As the game progressed, Dudley’s impact grew. In the final moments, she had two shots blocked by defenders, narrowly missed with a header, and assisted Lily Leal, whose close-range shot was again stopped by Murphy.
Teammate Jadyn Shaw praised Dudley, saying, “I think she’s just unpredictable. She can do anything.” Shaw noted that Dudley’s versatility—whether holding the ball, running behind defenders, or making dribbling plays—makes her a daunting opponent for defenders.
Interestingly, Dudley didn’t start off strong in Gotham. Initially, in the first five regular-season games, she started just once, mostly coming off the bench. However, things changed in late April when she secured a starting role.
On April 24, she registered an assist against Bay FC, and just 46 seconds into her next match against Chicago, she found the back of the net for the first time in her NWSL career. Since then, Dudley has consistently asserted herself on the field.
Sarah Szpanski, another teammate, added, “She’s a very exciting player to watch every time she gets the ball in her hands. … The coaching staff has done a great job positioning her to showcase her skills.” It’s clear that Dudley has worked hard to establish herself as a vital player on the team.
At Saturday’s game, which drew 11,308 fans—one of the largest crowds for Gotham FC—it also featured U.S. Women’s National Team coach Emma Hayes in attendance. For Dudley, this was a significant opportunity to show what she can do.
Hayes commented on the importance of observing players in person, stating, “When you come out here and see things firsthand, you get a better sense of their engagement and performance.” Though she didn’t single out Dudley, being in the spotlight in front of such a key figure must have been both exciting and nerve-wracking.
The match ended a remarkable three-game winning streak for Gotham, which had been ongoing since late April. Shaw scored the only goal for Gotham in the 37th minute after capitalizing on a rebound from Murphy. Unfortunately for Gotham, Alba Caño equalized just moments later with a goal from deep.
