Travis Kelce of the Chiefs found himself the subject of memes following a tough outing in Kansas City’s 20-10 defeat to the Texans this past Sunday.
After a crucial drop that led to an interception by Houston, NBC’s cameras caught the All-Pro tight end visibly frustrated, slumped on the bench with his eyes shut as the Chiefs lagged behind by seven points late in the fourth quarter.
With a little over three minutes left in the game, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes targeted Kelce with a pass. Unfortunately, Kelce’s hands failed him, and the ball bounced off his chest, resulting in an interception by Texans linebacker Azeez Al Shaair.
This was particularly significant as Kelce’s dropped pass happened to be the team’s last opportunity to score and tie the game.
He ended the night with a disappointing one catch on five attempts, totaling a mere eight yards.
Kelce, 36, opted not to answer questions after the game, as noted by ESPN.
Overall, the Chiefs’ offense struggled throughout the match. Other players like tight end Noah Gray and wide receiver Laci Rice also missed critical catches.
Despite the loss, Mahomes, who was drafted in the third round and didn’t manage any touchdowns, reflected on the time he gets to play alongside Kelce, who might be considering retirement after 13 seasons. He said, “Every season I’ve had with him over the last few years, I’m just going to… cherish it, because you never know.” It seems like Kelce has been in great shape this year and playing well, but Mahomes acknowledges that once the season ends, Kelce will have many options ahead of him.
It’s clear that the Chiefs (6-7) must win their remaining games if they hope to see the playoffs, something they haven’t achieved since 2014.
Interestingly, Kelce’s fiancé, Taylor Swift, was spotted in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium with friends Selena Gomez and Lena Dunham. Notably, Leonardo DiCaprio, who previously appeared on Kelce’s podcast, was also in attendance.
The Chiefs are set to face the Chargers (8-4) next Sunday in an important AFC West matchup.
