Kayleigh McEnany Responds to Ilhan Omar's Comparison of Criticism of Somalis to Nazi Rhetoric

McEnany Critiques Omar’s Nazi Rhetoric Claim

On Monday, Kayleigh McEnany, the former White House press secretary, took aim at Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from Minnesota over her recent statement suggesting that requests for Somalis to assimilate echo Nazi rhetoric.

During a recent appearance on “Face the Nation,” Omar claimed that Stephen Miller, White House deputy chief of staff for policy, used language reminiscent of Nazi ideology when he cautioned against immigrants from “failed states.” Speaking on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” Omar described these remarks as “shameful rhetoric” that endangered Miller and conservatives more broadly.

“So, she’s suggesting that Stephen is akin to a Nazi,” McEnany remarked. “But, first of all, Stephen is Jewish. He’s genuinely a great person. He loves this country and puts in a lot of hard work.” She expressed concern for Miller and his family, stating they were facing significant threats related to their positions. McEnany noted that they had received various intimidation tactics, including threats following the assassination of Charlie Kirk. “Someone said, ‘I’m watching you,’ near their home,” she added. Such accusations against Miller included claims of “crimes against humanity.”

McEnany continued by underscoring the dangers they faced. “This is a systematic campaign of dehumanization and denigration,” she stated bluntly. “And labeling them as Nazis? That’s not just Ilhan Omar’s view; it’s something larger at play.” She insisted that this shameful rhetoric must be reined in.

Additionally, McEnany remarked on the necessity for immigrants to embrace an assimilation journey, emphasizing the importance of loving and valuing America. “We truly appreciate immigrants who come here,” she noted. “But it’s crucial that there’s a process of assimilation.” She also highlighted, albeit cautiously, that while it’s entirely acceptable to maintain one’s culture, there should be a shared enthusiasm for the American dream and an appreciation for unifying values.

Omar has been accused of downplaying various crimes involving Somalis, including an incident where welfare funds from Minnesota were purportedly diverted to the terrorist group al-Shabaab, responsible for the deaths of at least 11 Americans. Federal prosecutors have launched a case against 59 individuals, predominantly Somali, in relation to over $1 billion in stolen taxpayer funds.

In response, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has intensified deportation efforts targeting Somali nationals in Minneapolis and St. Paul. These actions were initiated after President Trump expressed his desire to limit entry to immigrants from Somalia and other regions he termed “Third World.”

Democratic Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota dismissed the operation as a “PR stunt” that broadly affects immigrants. State officials criticized Walz for allegedly ignoring rules meant to report fraud and for contributing to “a series of systemic failures.”

In a Truth Social post dated November 27, Trump labeled Walz as “severely mentally retarded” and accused him of failing to address the theft and misuse of funds linked to the Somali community.
