Prince Harry’s UK Security Review Initiated
Following the denial of his appeal to reverse the British government’s decision to remove his publicly funded security, Prince Harry’s security measures are reportedly under review by the Home Office. This shift comes months after the initial ruling.
It seems that Prince Harry personally reached out to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmoud, asking for a comprehensive security risk evaluation. The Royal VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) plans to consult the Risk Management Committee to reassess his threat level for the first time since 2020.
Representatives from both Archewell and the Home Office haven’t commented yet on this situation.
Royal analyst Hilary Fordwich mentioned that this request might pave the way for Prince Harry, along with his wife Meghan Markle and their kids, Archie and Lilibet, to visit the UK more freely.
Fordwich pointed out, “What Prince Harry wants is for taxpayers to provide security through police whenever he’s in the UK.” She noted that recent communications with the Home Office indicated they’d conducted a risk management assessment following Harry’s lobbying efforts.
“His safety seems to be more attainable now,” she added cautiously. Although nothing is definitive, there could be a possibility for him and his family to return to the UK.
Earlier this year, Prince Harry appeared at a hearing that challenged the government’s stance on his security status. Here, his attorney argued that the couple felt compelled to step back from royal duties due to a lack of protection, emphasizing Harry’s desire to continue advocating for causes important to him.
In May, the Crown withdrew its appeal, with the Court of Appeal ruling that Harry was treated fairly regarding the committee’s decision to assess security on a case-by-case basis during his visits to the UK.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020, citing undue media pressure and insufficient support from the royal institution.
Harry’s lawyer emphasized the lack of perceived protection from the current setup, showcasing the significance of the ongoing legal battle for both the Duke and his family.
In September, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Harry and King Charles met at Clarence House for the first time in over a year. This meeting took place after Charles’s cancer diagnosis.
Two months later, Prince Harry wrote an essay reflecting on British identity and personal connections, hinting he might still feel a sense of longing for his previous life in the UK.
In light of these recent developments, it seems that Prince Harry may be navigating a complex landscape, one complicated by familial relationships and the challenges of his current life in California.
