Jazz coach criticizes team during heated timeout outburst

Jazz Coach Will Hardy Frustrated with Team’s Performance

Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy is visibly displeased with his team’s level of effort as the 2025-26 NBA season struggles to take off on a positive note.

During a recent timeout, Hardy was seen expressing his frustrations candidly to the players, specifically regarding their performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the reigning champions. “I’m tired of doing this every game,” he was overheard saying, urging them to increase their energy on the court.

In a game on Sunday night, the Thunder dominated the Jazz with a score of 131-101, even without their star player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Despite this absence, the Thunder’s shooting was impressive, particularly from beyond the arc, quickly gaining a substantial lead thanks to their sharp three-point game.

The Jazz’s season began on a sour note, currently recording 8 wins and 15 losses, placing them 12th out of 15 teams in the Western Conference. Unfortunately, they faced consecutive heavy losses, including a recent 146-112 defeat at the hands of the New York Knicks. Since taking on the head coaching role in 2022-23, Hardy hasn’t yet managed a winning season, which adds pressure to his demands for improvement from the players.

Hardy’s record with the Jazz stands at 93-176, reflecting the challenges he has faced. The Jazz are in a rebuilding phase following the departures of Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell in 2022, and they still appear to lack the depth needed to compete for a playoff spot.

On a more promising note, guard Keynote George is having a solid third season, averaging 22.2 points per game. Additionally, the Jazz recently drafted exciting rookie guard Ace Bailey from Rutgers. Meanwhile, Lauri Markkanen continues to shine, currently on track to achieve a career-high scoring average.

Still, it’s clear that for Hardy to make the playoffs for the first time as a head coach, greater effort is needed from his players. The Jazz hope to turn things around as they prepare to face the Memphis Grizzlies this Friday.
