When it comes to NFL release schedules, I’m convinced that keeping it simple is the way to go. If you’re curious about which teams your favorite plays this season, a straightforward graphic presenting all that info is really all you need.
Maybe it makes me seem old-fashioned, but I don’t see a point in influencers dressing up as mascots just to announce the Dolphins’ Week 8 matchup. It seems over the top to me.
It’s funny, really. The NFL’s schedule releases used to be quite strange. Remember when the Tennessee Titans put out that hilarious video blending a bachelorette party with a street guy theme? Ever since, every team seems to be on a quest to outdo each other with these extravagant social media stunts.
For instance, the Bills recently brought in NBA star Allen Iverson for their creative release. Good for them, I suppose. But there’s this sense that every team is trying to top what came before, leading to more and more outlandish ideas. We saw the Chargers announce a Minecraft-themed schedule this year, which… well, let’s just say the stakes keep climbing.
And don’t get me started on the Colts recently deleting a video featuring Dolphins’ star Tyreek Hill and some unfortunate references. In a world where creativity is supposed to reign, one team went all-in on a concept that made you wonder if it was a joke.
In a recent Chiefs release for 2026, they referenced Taylor Swift in a way that had me scratching my head. Not sure if that’s an improvement or just made it worse.
It’s odd; students could be getting paid well for dreaming up these ideas, but maybe not if the job ads tell the whole story. Regardless, the effort here seemed lacking, and mixing that with trend-chasing doesn’t sit right with me. The sourdough trend was cute three years ago, but now? It feels like it’s being dragged back into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
It’s disheartening, honestly. Imagine being part of a whole team of marketing pros who approved this approach for a multi-billion dollar entity. But then, I guess any publicity is better than none. Isn’t that the saying?
