The NY Times finally acknowledges the Biden border crisis -- much later than it should have

New Reporting Perspectives on Immigration Policy

Recently, The New York Times introduced a different style of reporting, highlighting significant stories that portray Democrats unfavorably, long after pivotal events have occurred.

In late 2025, they revealed that the Biden administration—due to a mix of ideological, partisan motives, and some degree of incompetence—had allowed a surge of illegal immigration across the nation.

Interesting, right?

This extensive, nearly 4,000-word piece by Christopher Flavelle, with contributions from 14 others, is filled with credible sources, but, notably, none of the information is new.

The article provides a thorough examination of various mistakes and misjudgments related to immigration during Biden’s four years in office.

That’s valuable, but why wait until now? Why not address these issues while he was actively serving?

Immigration hasn’t just become a hot topic today. It’s been a major issue since the pandemic eased.

And prior to the pandemic, in 2016, Donald Trump was already putting immigration front and center in his political agenda.

Privately, Democrats close to Biden have been aware of the crisis all along, understanding that his policies could exacerbate the situation.

“Biden’s policy advisers had raised concerns even before the election,” the Times pointed out.

In August 2020, multiple aides warned about the potential consequences of Biden’s promises to relax immigration enforcement, suggesting it might lead to increased border crossings due to prior pent-up demand and the economic fallout from the pandemic.

Democrats seemed to be conscious of the risks but proceeded regardless.

However, their supporters weren’t fully informed until quite recently, largely because the media didn’t provide the necessary in-depth coverage.

This scenario mirrors the narrative around Biden’s perceived cognitive decline.

Many in the media seemed to overlook his visible struggles, ignoring the evident facts.

A friend of mine, a conservative columnist at a prominent city newspaper, mentioned that writing about Biden’s age and health was off-limits.

This silence backfired, leading to multiple defeats for Democrats in the last presidential election, while many voters were surprisingly aware of immigration issues and quite frustrated by them.

But, hey, better late than never, right?

“How Biden Ignored Warnings and Lost Americans’ Faith in Immigration” conveys a vital lesson about the dangers of radical policies going unchecked in the media and how internal critiques from rational Democrats were disregarded.

It also highlights the effectiveness of Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s strategy to shift the immigration crisis directly into blue cities.

National Democrats might turn a blind eye to mass immigration as long as the majority of its consequences play out in Texas and similar states.

After all, Texas leans red, and an influx of low-income immigrants could turn it blue in the long run, possibly impacting the Electoral College for years to come.

Abbott disrupted that notion by sending illegal immigrants via bus to Democratic cities like Denver, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and New York.

Thousands of illegal immigrants arrived in cities that thought the border issue didn’t affect them directly.

This approach has proven to be effective:

“Many insiders within the Biden administration have started to view Mr. Abbott’s tactics as a setback for Democrats,” the Times noted, quoting Deborah Fleischaker, a former aide to Biden regarding ICE policy, who commented, “I don’t think we were able to recover.”

The journalism community needs to reflect on whether they can regain credibility after missing the opportunity for comprehensive coverage during these events.

Biden’s challenges and the severe repercussions of his immigration policies are not the only issues in conservative media that have lacked thorough and critical evaluation, even from left-leaning outlets.

Just imagine if The New York Times explored climate change criticisms in such detail and concluded that the world might not face immediate peril.

Such a development would be revolutionary for media trustworthiness, but right now, all we can do is hope for news that is worthy of being reported, even after the questionable decisions become glaringly evident.
