Governor Greg Abbott Anticipates Crockett Will Be 'Beaten' in Senate Race

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) commented before Democrats made a formal announcement regarding their Senate bids, suggesting that Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) would face challenges in the Senate race due to her “progressive socialist policies.”

Crockett is set to officially declare her candidacy on Monday, having hinted at her intentions for weeks. Interestingly, just before this, former Congressman Colin Allred (D) revealed he would be stepping back from the Senate contest to focus on running for the Texas House of Representatives in the 33rd District.

Allred expressed concern about the potential negative impact of a chaotic Senate Democratic primary and runoff election, stating that it could hinder the party’s unity against threats from Donald Trump and other notable Republicans like Mr. Paxton, Mr. Cornyn, and Mr. Hunt.

A few hours later, Crockett officially filed the necessary paperwork just in time to meet the deadline.

Abbott had predicted her candidacy earlier, asserting that “Jasmine Crockett is about to learn the hard way that most Texans have vastly different districts, bases, and values than her own.”

He forecasted that she would be criticized for her progressive agenda and claimed that Republican candidates would overpower her campaign. “The Texas political graveyard is full of figures like her who don’t understand statewide concerns,” he said.

He expressed anticipation for what he described as a “circus,” adding, “On the bright side for her, she’ll probably end up getting a job on The View.”

Previously, Crockett and Abbott had exchanged barbs, particularly when she referred to him as “Governor Hot Wheels” at a Human Rights Campaign dinner in 2025.

She remarked, “You all know Governor Hot Wheels is there,” then added, somewhat hesitantly, “And the only thing about him is that he’s got a messed-up personality, so, uh, yeah.” She later aimed to pivot the topic, mentioning other notable personalities in town yet indicated a struggle to stay on script.

Subsequently, Crockett defended her comments, suggesting they weren’t aimed at Abbott’s disability but rather at his immigration policies, stating, “What I meant was about the means he used to transport immigrants into communities led by Black mayors, stirring up fear.” She noted that her remarks also included calling him a “terrible guy,” referring to his policies.

However, during her initial comments, it seemed unclear that she was specifically talking about deportation.
