Tragic Incident at North Forsyth High School
On Tuesday morning, a student lost their life following a fight at North Forsyth High School in Forsyth County, North Carolina. Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough Jr. has reached out to the community, urging them to pray for the family and to unite during this concerning time.
During a news conference later that day, Kimbrough mentioned he was alerted by the school’s resource officer shortly after 11 a.m., who said, “We need all hands on deck.” Upon arrival, officers understood that an altercation had occurred between two students.
“Sadly, during this… altercation, lives were lost. I want to inform you that the families of those involved have been notified,” Kimbrough stated. “There’s no ongoing threat to the community.”
Winston-Salem Police Chief William Penn Jr. remarked that this incident was deeply unsettling and had profoundly affected the community. He emphasized that his department is working alongside others on the investigation to uncover all the details.
Penn also urged residents not to share videos or images from the incident online, highlighting the insensitivity of such actions towards the victims and their families. He called for unity in the community to put an end to violence.
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Don Phipps shared his condolences for students, staff, and families impacted by the tragic event. He expressed gratitude toward law enforcement and first responders for their swift actions and acknowledged the school staff’s quick response during the crisis.
“Today is an educator’s worst nightmare,” Phipps said, emphasizing that when students are harmed, the whole district suffers.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the student involved in the fight. The school will be closed to students for the next day while a crisis team is available for faculty and staff support. Phipps encouraged parents to visit the school’s website for emergency resources.
Kimbrough refrained from providing specifics about the events leading to the altercation, noting that the investigation is still underway. He committed to keeping the community updated while ensuring that information is handled responsibly.
He mentioned having just met with the victim’s family and reiterated their need for prayers at this time. The governor has also expressed condolences and called for reflection within the community. “There are steps we must take in our community,” Kimbrough said.
In a statement, North Carolina Governor Josh Stein described the incident as “shocking and horrifying,” expressing his thoughts for the students and their families. He affirmed the importance of safety in schools and his commitment to support efforts for a safer environment in North Carolina.
