Man Arrested in Shooting of Jets Player
A New York man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd, police reported on Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Frederick Green, was charged late Monday night by the NYPD.
Earlier that day, Green was taken into custody in Buffalo, New York, but his name wasn’t disclosed at the time, and no charges were made initially.
Along with the attempted murder charge, Green is facing additional counts of assault and weapon possession. It’s not clear if he has legal representation at this point.
Kris Boyd was shot outside a restaurant in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of November 16, with the gunman fleeing the scene. The shooting occurred after Boyd, his friend, and fellow Jets teammates Earvin Charles and Jamian Sherwood left the venue. According to the police, a group of men approached them and made derogatory remarks about their clothing, which escalated into a fight, resulting in Boyd being fatally shot. Notably, Boyd and his friends were unarmed.
Boyd sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was taken to the hospital. Reports indicate he spent several days there before being released to address further health concerns related to his injuries.
Boyd had joined the Jets in the offseason after previously playing for the Houston Texans. However, he was sidelined due to injury during training camp and has been on injured reserve since August. Prior to that, he spent four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.
