BITW Launches as Major Crypto Index Fund

BITW, established in 2017, features the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap, utilizing a strategy of ongoing screening and monthly rebalancing, as highlighted in a recent announcement.

This fund aims to provide investors with diversified exposure to the cryptocurrency market.

According to Bitwise’s chief information officer, many investors believe cryptocurrencies are here to stay, yet are unsure about which ones will thrive. The index approach allows individuals to invest without needing to predict specific outcomes, as BITW encompasses the largest and most successful assets in the sector, based on market capitalization.

In July, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued new guidelines on cryptocurrency-related disclosures for exchange-traded products, signaling possible future approvals for crypto ETFs.

In September, a new investment platform focused on digital assets was launched by Grayscale Investment. They introduced the Grayscale CoinDesk Crypto 5 ETF (GDLC), which began trading on the NYSE Arca. This fund provides initial investors with access to the five largest cryptocurrencies and plans for quarterly rebalancing to stay in sync with leading assets in the market.

The Grayscale CEO noted that the CoinDesk Crypto 5 ETF responds to increasing investor interest in diversified cryptocurrency exposure, with more individuals looking to use ETP formats to invest in this sector.

After raising $70 million in equity funding earlier this year, Bitwise expressed optimism about significant growth in 2024, indicating that these funds would bolster their balance sheet and lead to the creation of new investment opportunities for clients.

Bitwise’s CEO commented on the evolving status of cryptocurrencies, positioning them as a recognized alternative asset class alongside private equity and high-yield bonds.
