Toronto Fans May Want to Rethink Their Strategy
Jalen Brunson showcased a stellar performance, pushing past the taunts of fans to help his team clinch a spot in the NBA Cup semifinals with a decisive 117-101 victory against the Raptors on Tuesday.
Early in the first quarter, Brunson was presumably targeted by a comment from a fan, responding with a shake of his head towards a green-hatted spectator seated courtside.
As the first quarter wound down, Brunson turned mid-play, exchanged words with the fans, and successfully executed a 3-pointer after a quick pass from center Mitchell Robinson, putting the Knicks ahead 28-25.
He again glanced toward the crowd, shaking his head as he got ready for the next defensive play.
Brunson lit up the scoreboard with 20 points in that first quarter, ultimately finishing the game with an impressive 35 points, hitting 13 of his 19 shots and 6 out of 9 from beyond the arc.
Footage circulating on social media showed Brunson seemingly engaged in another heated exchange with fans in the same vicinity, though it’s uncertain if it involved the same individuals as before.
“Why are you harassing me?” Brunson questioned, to which one fan retorted, “That’s a failure.” Brunson countered, “That’s a foul. I’m just playing by the rules,” as the fan continued with reminders of, “Don’t mess up, don’t mess up.”
Brunson, it seems, doesn’t lack for motivation at the moment. The Knicks’ leading players are certainly stepping up their game.
Over the last three games, the two-time All-Star is averaging 32.7 points, 5.7 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game. With this latest triumph, the Knicks secured their fourth consecutive win and are gearing up for a semifinal clash with the Magic, aiming for a spot in the NBA Cup Finals.
