Lavrov advises that Russia will respond if Europe sends forces to Ukraine

Russia’s Lavrov Issues Warning on Ukraine Support

On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov cautioned that Russia would respond if European nations sent troops to Ukraine to bolster Kiev or if they seized frozen Russian assets, according to reports from Reuters.

Addressing the Federation Council, which is the upper house of Russia’s parliament, Lavrov articulated Russia’s stance regarding the ongoing conflict with the West. He emphasized that while Russia does not aim for a war with Europe, it is prepared to take action if Western countries escalate the situation.

“We will respond to any hostile measures, such as deploying a European military force to Ukraine or confiscating Russian assets. We are already ready for this response,” Lavrov stated.

He also acknowledged former President Donald Trump’s approach toward potential reconciliation, labeling him “the only Western leader” who seemingly understands the reasons behind what he described as an “inevitable” conflict. Despite appreciating Trump’s interest in dialogue, Lavrov pointed out that Trump has not rushed to lift sanctions and has, in fact, increased them.

Zelenskiy’s Stance on Territorial Concessions

In another development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has firmly rejected the idea of making territorial concessions, stating that discussions in Europe regarding peace have been reorganized.

Later on Monday, during a speech at the White House, Trump mentioned that he had conversations with European leaders like those from France, Germany, and the UK about the situation in Ukraine. “We talked in pretty strong terms. Let’s see what happens,” he said while noting that they are waiting for a response before deciding on a course of action.

When pressed for clarification, Trump remarked, “I think there was a little quarrel about people. They say they want us to attend a weekend meeting in Europe, but it depends on what they bring back.” He expressed frustration over the ongoing loss of lives, saying, “It’s ridiculous when we’re losing thousands of people a week.”

Zelenskiy characterized a recent meeting with officials from the Trump administration as significant for planning the reconstruction of Ukraine, while Lavrov accused European nations of hindering peace efforts.

Constructive Talks on Ukraine’s Recovery

Zelenskiy shared on social media that his team had productive discussions with the American side, indicating this meeting could be instrumental in drafting a document about Ukraine’s recovery and economic revitalization.

“We discussed key elements of recovery and considered updates to the framework document aimed at ending the war,” he noted. Zelenskiy stated that overall security would play a crucial role in fostering economic security and enabling a supportive business environment.

He also highlighted the commitment to continue discussions, ensuring there won’t be unnecessary delays in achieving results and expressed gratitude towards Trump for his administration’s support.

In a follow-up post, Zelenskiy stated, “The initial 20 points towards ending the war serve as a foundational document. We’re actively developing additional frameworks—one on security in cooperation with the U.S. and another focused on the economy, which includes reconstruction and joint investments.”
