Missing Cab Driver Found Murdered in New York Reservoir
A 66-year-old cab driver reported missing in Connecticut has been found dead in a reservoir located in upstate New York. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation to identify the responsible parties.
Aurelio Junio Alves was reported missing to the Danbury Police Department on December 1. On Sunday, fishermen discovered his body floating in the Croton Falls Reservoir in Putnam County. The county sheriff has confirmed these details.
Police have also noted that the suspects stole Junio Alves’ taxi, a black Toyota Sienna.
“Following an autopsy, the Putnam County Medical Examiner’s Office classified this death as a homicide,” the sheriff’s office stated. “A comprehensive criminal investigation is underway.”
Last seen around 11:30 p.m. on December 1 at the Metro-North station in Brewster, New York, where he worked as a livery driver, Junio Alves’ disappearance was publicly announced by the Danbury Police on Facebook.
According to officials, the taxi had distinctive markings, including the name ORBESTAXI.COM at the back, along with a “V89” mark on the rear left side, and a rooftop taxi sign.
The State of Connecticut has directed all inquiries about the incident to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
Isabel Alvarado, the deceased man’s niece, shared a heartfelt message on a fundraiser page, stating, “My uncle was a devoted father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was deeply loved within his community, as well as in others.” She emphasized how, as a taxi driver, he formed strong bonds with those he served, known for his kindness and hard work.
Alvarado lamented that, “Sadly, there are people in this world who take advantage of the most vulnerable, and now our family faces irreparable loss.” The fundraising goal was set at $7,000, and by Wednesday evening, they had raised just over $3,000.
