Texas teenager murders his ex-girlfriend's mother Jennifer Rodriguez and her two younger siblings in a horrific triple killing

A homeless teenager in Texas is facing charges for the tragic killing of his ex-girlfriend’s mother and her two young siblings. Authorities are calling it a targeted and “despicable act of violence.”

Jennifer Rodriguez, 39, was discovered dead alongside her 13-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son in a luxury apartment in Odessa, Texas, after a shooting incident that took place on Tuesday night. The police were called to the Eighty Seventh Apartments, located about 350 miles west of Dallas, where they found the horrific scene around 5:45 p.m.

The alleged shooter, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his age, had previously dated Rodriguez’s 15-year-old daughter. Initially, he aimed to attack her outside the school but later changed his mind and targeted her home instead, according to police.

Fortunately, the teenage girl was not harmed during the event. It’s unclear if she was present in the apartment when the shooting happened.

Odessa Police Chief Mike Gerke commented that while she wasn’t physically injured, the emotional toll of such a tragedy on her must be significant. “I’m sure she’s not okay after something like this happened to her family, but she was physically unharmed,” he stated at a press conference.

The 15-year-old suspect managed to escape the scene but was arrested roughly 40 minutes later. Gerke mentioned that they quickly identified the suspect and apprehended him soon after.

He now faces multiple murder charges and is currently held at the Ector County Youth Center. A motive for the attack has yet to be disclosed.

Authorities have recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting, but they are still waiting for the investigation to confirm it as the murder weapon.

Gerke characterized the attack as targeted, emphasizing that there appear to be no gang affiliations involved.

The father of the deceased children expressed his heartbreak over their deaths, stating, “I never expected a tragedy like this to happen to any of us.” In a GoFundMe post, Roy Casey Martinez shared his profound grief, saying, “No one can really prepare for this because no one expects a tragedy like this to happen to us.” He added, “My heart is so broken that I keep finding out which pieces are going where!”

Gerke also mentioned that while they know who purchased the weapon, they are withholding details on how the boy got hold of it.

“Evil visits us from time to time,” Gerke remarked, reflecting on the tragic incident. In Texas, the death penalty is not applicable for offenders who were under 18 at the time of the crime.

Gerke concluded by expressing condolences: “Our hearts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and everyone involved in last night’s tragedy. This was a very tragic and despicable act of violence.”
