House Explosion in California Hospitalizes Six

In a shocking event in California, six individuals were hospitalized following a house explosion that was captured on video. The incident occurred near Hayward, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, and doorbell camera footage showed the house erupting on Thursday, sending debris high into the air. Shortly afterward, the sound of sirens could be heard as a fire erupted.

Christian Maldanado, who recorded the video, shared his experience, saying, “It was scary. It was like a Hollywood scene. It was surreal.” The Alameda County Fire Department reported that 75 firefighters responded to the three-alarm fire, which caused explosions that destroyed three structures and damaged another nearby home.

According to officials, the cause of the explosion is currently under investigation. While six individuals were taken to local hospitals, including utility workers, the details of their injuries remain unclear.

Details of the Explosion

The explosion occurred in the unincorporated community of Ashland, just a short distance from Hayward, which has about 160,000 residents. It was reported that around 7:35 a.m., workers were trying to repair an underground gas line when they inadvertently damaged it. Although utility crews managed to isolate some of the damaged lines, gas continued to leak from various locations.

The flow of gas was halted by 9:25 a.m., but just ten minutes later, the house exploded, as confirmed by PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkisian. The gas had leaked for approximately two hours prior to this explosion.

Response and Aftermath

Alameda County Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Nishimoto noted that three buildings sustained significant damage. Some firefighters experienced electric shocks from downed power lines while working at the scene and had to momentarily pull back. One local resident, Deborah, described the aftermath, saying, “All the windows in the house were blown out. There was a crack in the ceiling. The house was destroyed.”

Interestingly, construction was already underway in the neighborhood to improve sidewalks and bike lanes, as the area is located near two busy freeways. Following the explosion, the California Highway Patrol temporarily closed down Interstate 238 as authorities responded to the situation.

According to PG&E, three of its personnel were among the injured. However, a family member reported that the remaining injured individuals were residents of the destroyed home and are being treated for severe burns.
