Max Mara’s new jacket system reveals fresh luxury styles

A high-quality puffer coat is sort of like protective armor: dependable, tough, and able to withstand unexpected weather challenges like rain, snow, sleet, and wind.

But the standout options are not just functional; they’re also luxurious and incredibly stylish.

Maybe it’s more accurate to say that there are multiple standout options.

Max Mara is well-known for crafting the iconic oversized double-breasted 101801 style, among other delightful coats. Take, for instance, the Teddy Bear Icon Coat worn by Taylor Swift. In preparation for her appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” this week, she’ll be sporting various adaptations of these winter staples.

These featured designs are part of Max Mara’s The Cube collection, a thoughtful assortment of outerwear and accessories centered around an ideal padded jacket.

Launched in 2008, The Cube highlights advanced materials and design techniques. Many pieces are reversible and customizable, making them excellent for layering. For example, an iridescent bronze quilted coat filled with Siberian goose feathers can look especially chic layered under a wool topper from the brand.

The collection boasts a subtly opulent camel bomber crafted from water-repellent taffeta, a cropped black nylon swing jacket with elegant bracelet sleeves, and an iridescent vest featuring a detachable hood. There’s also a lightweight nylon zip-up cardigan with white trim, reminiscent of a rain-proof Jackie O-style jacket.

Each item in this outerwear line is modular, easily packable, and neatly boxed.

A few years back, Max Mara began to incorporate a sustainable material called Cameluxe into some of its Cube pieces.

For over 70 years, the brand has worked with wool fibers made from camel hair, which is collected through the natural brushing of these magnificent animals. To minimize waste, Max Mara has started to reuse fabric scraps from their famous coats, processing them into fine fibers that blend with recycled polyester. The resulting material, Camellux, is not only eco-friendly but also boasts impressive insulation properties.

And let’s be honest, it’s quite warm.
