Stabbing Incident at Macy’s Herald Square

A woman was stabbed multiple times inside New York City’s well-known Macy’s Herald Square on Thursday, as confirmed by local authorities.

The victim, a 38-year-old woman from California, was visiting the store with her husband when the attack occurred. Reports indicate she sustained several stab wounds to her back and cuts on her left arm. She was subsequently transported to Bellevue Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

The incident reportedly took place in the store’s bathroom on the seventh floor, according to various news sources.

Law enforcement shared that the woman was visiting from Jurupa Valley and was employed as a civilian worker for the sheriff’s office, where her husband serves as the sheriff.

The suspect arrested in connection with the attack is identified as Kelly Ahem, a 43-year-old from Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Ahem faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, two counts of assault, and possession of a weapon. It’s noted that Ahem is currently homeless.

A spokesperson for Macy’s expressed their sadness over the incident and emphasized the priority of customer and employee safety, stating they will refer additional inquiries to local law enforcement.

Macy’s Herald Square, which opened its doors in 1902, remains a popular shopping venue during the holiday season, attracting many tourists.
