Criticism of Governor Newsom’s Comments on Transgender Children
Vince Collanese, Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Caller, has spoken out against California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent remarks about transgender children. On a Friday episode of “Vince,” Collanese reflected on Newsom’s comment from Wednesday, where he expressed a desire to “see transgender kids” and “sigh,” citing that he has a transgender godson.
Newsom’s remarks were highlighted on “The Ezra Klein Show,” which has garnered backlash from conservative commentators on social media. Collanese referenced this segment, suggesting that the governor’s words carried negative implications. He stated, “No one but the cruelest, most demented people in this country would dare say that children should be born in the wrong body,” emphasizing that promoting such beliefs harms children.
Collanese accused Newsom of perpetuating a harmful narrative, claiming that the majority of Americans do not agree with the idea of affirming gender identities for children in such a way. He asserted that Newsom’s connection to a transgender individual does not justify his views. “You’re sick,” he remarked, questioning the significance of Newsom’s use of the term “godson” in this context.
He elaborated, pointing out that traditionally, a godparent’s role involves providing spiritual guidance and support, contrasting this with what he perceives as Newsom’s view, which he believes undermines the gift of life to children. Collanese referenced biblical creation in his argument, stating that genders were clearly defined from the start.
Newsom has specifically mentioned Nats Getty, a designer and activist, when discussing his experience with transgender issues. Collanese described the televised comments as something that should “haunt” Newsom politically, labeling him as unfit to influence children due to his views on child gender identity.
Additionally, while Newsom has expressed concerns regarding men in women’s sports, his administration has resisted former President Donald Trump’s demand to restrict men from participating in women’s sports and other spaces. He has also endorsed various state policies related to gender reassignment for minors.
